Part 1: PFA and SBT; HRE in HIDOE, presented by Joshua Hoppe.  

In this session, an overview of the Practical Functional Assessment and Skill-Based Teaching (PFA/SBT) process will be provided. The presentation will describe a pilot training and implementation project between HIDOE and FTF Behavioral Consulting spanning multiple districts and Islands aimed at building staffing capacity to implement PFA/SBT effectively in the public school system. The presentation will first describe the rationale for selecting PFA/SBT, and link the process to the broader values and systems of the HIDOE. A brief overview of the actual process will be presented, followed by outcome data from the pilot project.

Part 2: Assessment-Focused Case Presentation by Sherene Hajior and Carey Motohiro
Following the overview, Sherene and Carey will get into the nuts and bolts of the assessment process with a case presentation. They will highlight some of the obstacles that may be faced and how to overcome them. They will describe what they learned through the assessment and how the assessment informed treatment for their individual student.

Learning Objectives:
1. Participants will be able to describe the PFA and SBT process and where it fits into the continuum of behavioral supports.
2. Participants will be able to describe critical concepts associated with SBT including synthesized reinforcers, HRE, and intermittent, unpredictable reinforcement.
3. Participants will be able to describe the Interview Informed Synthesized Contingency Analysis (IISCA) also know as the Practical Functional Assessment.
